Love this: “The two biggest things: Finding new ways to connect people to the things they’re most passionate about (and people who are equally as passionate about them), AND helping people discover new things that they didn’t know they would love.”
I saw this comment but hadn't seen any of the ads, but now I've seen a few. Wanted to come back and say that I really like them. I think it plays on the "my toxic trait is thinking I could do that" meme but being like no, you can't. I like that it goes into the gritty, sometimes unsavory part of being an elite athlete.
Do you not think it goes against Nikes trafitional positioning as it is typically more an every person inspirational brand. More like “everyone can try” - just do it
I don't think these ads are cutting into the more mainstream, everyman vibes of Nike. The ads aren't telling us we're not welcome in or can't try sport, but I think they're reminding us that there are truly gods among mortals in the sporting world. And sometimes being that good goes beyond just talent, you have to have a "take no prisoners, I'm better than everyone, I WILL win" mentality to push past the daily grind of training, and bad days, and everything else that goes into being an elite athlete.
edit to say: the Kobe inclusion is certainly a *choice* though

Big mistake separating the summer and winter games to separate years. Who’s enthusiastic about the games now?

What did you think of Nikes new Olympics ad?
not my favorite!
Yes seems very off brand for Nike.
