A lot of it came down to, like I mentioned, having my manager list out the things a Director does vs a Manager. Over time I was able to show that I do all of those things—and beyond! During reviews it made it fairly obvious that I was performing the duties of a role beyond my title. In the weekly meetings with my manager leading up to reviews I'd really elevate all the work I was doing, numbers I was hitting, posts I was proud of, etc. Keeping your wins top of mind for your manager is also key.
