I had never heard of More Perfect Union, immediately followed. Thank you so much for sharing a channel that could be considered 'not trendy.' The amount of work Georgia and her team put in is incredibly thoughtful and inspiring. I know journalism is going through an ongoing transformation, including significant job losses, so bringing stories and interviews like this to this community is awesome. Thank you again for keeping me informed and learning in this wild time.
I love your point about prioritizing relevance! I manage an agency’s social channels, and we had a project post tied to the Winter Olympics do better than our usual posts simply because we shared it the week leading up to the opening ceremony. It made me realize relevance isn’t always about being reactive — sometimes it’s just about posting at the right moment when people are already paying attention.
We’ve optimized ourselves away from serendipity. We’ve conflated finding and discovery. One is passively “served up” one you have to work a little bit for. Guess which experience sticks with you and builds consumer love? The one that is harder to optimize in binaries.
